Jonny Muirhead: Architect, Practice Director & Company Owner
Jonny was born and bred in the East Midlands, moving to Cumbria in 1985 to attend secondary school in Sedbergh. After A levels he headed to Birmingham in 1992 to study at Birmingham School of Architecture, where he gained a BA (Hons). Whilst there the opportunity arose to study for a semester at the Fachhochschule in Frankfurt am Main in Germany through the EU’s Ermaus student exchange programme.
RIBA Part I exmption was gained at a difficult time of recession in the UK, so Jonny spent 6 months in a northern Ontario architectural practice before returning to make models for 6 months for a Birmingham practice.
In 1997 Jonny moved to London to study at the University of Westminster, completely the first year under Professor David Green. Then, via a 4 week tour of Japan, went straight into a semester studying at RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institution of Technology) in Australia under Professor Peter Corrigan.
After Australia Jonny returned to practice, working in a variety of practices. In 2000 Jonny went to the Royal College of Art, gaining both a Diploma of Architecture and Architecture & Interior Design (MA). The first year was with Sir David Adjaye, Fennella and Dominico, and the second year with Kim and Clive Sall.
Jonny gained a ‘Merit’ in his RIBA Part III exemption exams at London Metropolitan University in 2009.
Outside of the practice Jonny has been a guest critic at the London Metropolitan University, University of Brighton, University of Greenwich. /he has been a visiting tutor for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd years (academic years 2011 to 2013) Interior Architecture students at the University of Brighton. A visiting tutor for 1st and 2nd year Interior Design students at the University of Kingston (academic year 2014/2015). A visiting tutor at Birmingham City University for 2nd year Architecture students (academic year 2014/2015).
